Changing the Image Drums
18/04/2005
Follow these simple instructions for hassle free Image Drum changing
1) Shut the scanner cover
Make sure that the scanner cover is shut
Tip: The scanner cover will make a clip noise to shut. It is secured by a magnet and will remain shut even when you open the cover of the printer
2) Open the printer cover
Press the cover release (fig 1) and lift the cover upwards

Warning: The fuser unit at the back may be hot, please pay careful attention not to touch this for a few minutes
Note: You may want to have a piece of paper ready to place the toner on whilst you are changing the image drum
3) Remove the image drum
Holding it by its top centre, lift the image drum, complete with
its toner cartridge, up and out of the printer (see fig 2)

4) Place the drum down
Place the toner
and image drum down on a piece of paper
Caution: The Green image drum surface is very delicate and light sensitive. Take care not to touch it or expose it to light for more than 5 minutes.
5) Pull the blue toner release
Pull the blue toner release lever towards you (fig 3), this will
release the bond between the toner and the image drum.

6) Remove the toner from the drum
Lift
the right-hand end of the cartridge and then draw the cartridge to
the right to release the left-hand end (see fig 4, below) and place
the toner cartridge on your prepared paper.

7) Take the new drum
Take the new image drum out of it's packaging and place it down on
the paper. You can now place the old image drum in the packaging
for disposal.
8) Place the new drum in the printer
Place the toner cartridge in the new image drum by sliding it in
from the right to left (Fig 4). Make sure the left hand side of the
toner cartridge is secure before securing the right. It is not
necessary to also replace the toner cartridge at this point unless
the toner is extremely low.
9) Secure the toner cartridge
Push the toner release away from you to secure it to the image
drum.
10) Place the unit in the printer
Place the unit back into the printer holding it from the top, at
the centre of the toner. You'll notice that you need to align the
unit so that it slots back into it's original position.
11) Close the printer lid
Finally, close the top cover and press down firmly at both sides so
that the cover latches close
