Changing the Image Drum
24/03/2005
Follow these simple instructions for hassle free image drum changing
Before replacing any consumables it is necessary to power off the printer using the safe shutdown procedure described in the Knowledgebase article below:
"Shutdown/Restart process"
You may want to have a spare piece of paper ready to set your toner cartridge on whilst changing the image drum. This will help to avoid spilling any loose particles of toner
1) Fully open the printer cover (Fig 1)

2) The image drums are located underneath the corresponding toner cartridges. You will see the toner each clearly labelled with C, M, Y and K (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black). If you are changing more than one drum, please note that the drums must go back in the same place. There are 4 coloured dots along the side of the printer (see Fig 2) indicating the correct positions

3) Remove all outer packaging from the new image drum, keeping the black bag as this can be used to properly dispose of the old image drum
4) The image drum and toner cartridge are connected. Take hold of the centre of the toner cartridge and lift it directly upwards and out of the printer, placing it down on your spare piece of paper
5) Face the toner horizontally towards you with the blue tab towards the right of the toner. Push the blue tab to the unlock position (fig 3) and pull the toner cartridge away from the image drum (Fig 4). Place the old image drum in the black bag

6) Place the toner cartridge on the new image drum by first slotting the left end in and then the right. Pull the blue lever to the lock position to bind the toner cartridge and the image drum together
7) Holding the image drum directly above it's correct position in the printer, lower the image drum into the printer making sure that it is correctly aligned. When aligned correctly the drum will easily fit into position without any additional pressure
8) Close the printer cover
